6 Accommodations That Focus on Sustainability and Low-Impact Tourism

Many hotels, guesthouses and farms in Southwest Germany have dedicated themselves to low-impact tourism. They are so different that every guest can find the right one for him or her. No matter if you are looking for a holiday flat on a Demeter farm in the Black Forest or a city hotel that generates electricity on its energy roof garden with solar panels and wind turbines.
Enjoying your holiday with a clear conscience - that's easiest in accommodation that focuses on sustainability. Here are our 6 tips for hotels and inns that are both attractive and one-of-a-kind:

1# Fun day and night

Europa-Park

Stay in one of six themed hotels in the Europa-Park Resort in Rust and you not only have several days of fun in Germany's largest amusement park, but you also know that your holiday is sustainable. All six hotels passed the 'Environmental Check' of the German Hotel and Restaurant Association and received a gold award. The Europa-Park itself also puts an emphasis on environmental sustainability: 2,000 trees, 18,000 wild shrubs and 60,000 flowers have recently been planted, 158 nesting boxes and a wildlife and bat corridor have been set up, and bee colonies have been settled.

2# Food grown on site

Biohotel Mohren in Limpach

The owner of the Biohotel Mohren in Limpach, north of Lake Constance, is not only a hotelier, he is also a farmer and chef. In the hotel kitchen, he creates delicious dishes that feature produce grown on his own organically-certified farm. His Aberdeen Angus cattle graze outside in the meadow; his orchards are the perfect place for a stroll.

3# A glass of organic wine for dinner

Burgunderhof Hotel in Hagnau at Lake Constance

At the Burgunderhof Hotel in Hagnau at Lake Constance, wine lovers can enjoy the hotel's own organic wines - and also the schnapps made from organic fruit. Not to forget the distillery's award-winning gin "Mile High 69". All this and the organic farm make a holiday at the Burgunderhof something very special. And the hotel itself has been certified as climate neutral since 2015.

4# It's so green

Green City Hotel Vauban in Freiburg

In the Green City Hotel Vauban in Freiburg, guests enjoy sustainable 3-star service. Even the wooden facade of the hotel is eco-friendly, with plants climbing enthusiastically all over it. The only thing missing? To save energy, there are no minibars in the rooms.

5# The Swabian Alb's Organic Pioneer

Bio-Hotel Rose in Hayingen

Operating sustainably since 1950, Hotel Rose was the Swabian Alb’s first Bio-Hotel (certified organic hotel). The rooms are oases of peace and well-being, with contemporary furnishing. Working with the farmers in the region, only the finest organic cuisine is served here. The Tress family also makes high-quality organic products that can be bought from their online shop.
